The plain HTTP uploads works really well for just throwing up a few files. And the Dropbox integration works great for directory structures, large files, large numbers of files

Sure. At the moment I am also constrained by how app engine handles large file uploads, which works well but precludes a lot of the fancy javascript solutions.
