@Fireduck yes. i want to join.
Awesome, give it a try and let me know if you encounter any problems
I am in the process of adding plain browser uploads so people don't have to use dropbox
Dropbox will still be better for large files or lots of files or directory structures
both ways of uploading are useful.
Indeed
buckets are permanent?
i cant find a way to delete
Yes
maybe add a hide feature.
what if i accidentally upload a picture of my private keys?
Better change the keys
if you catch it before you save the snapshot, you can discard the snapshot
That gives you an opportunity to see if the snapshot indeed has the files you want
ah. okay. good.
I am also working on allowing unicode for the archive names
so you guys can rock out with your umlaut
I guessed what your user id probably was and gave you an extra 100mb
gööd. umläute röcks.
thanks for the additional storage.
i like the concept.
awesome
but what if you are hit by a lighting? do other people have access to the cloud storage, m-discs or harddrives?
a good question. Things should run along without me just fine. On the hosting end, basically until Google deprecates something that is being used.
Two sets of the m-discs are in remote locations that others have access to
I have a friend who is soon to be a shareholder, who would take over the business
ok. cool.
http://friendbear.org is hosted on forever bucket
I can also direct hostnames to things
but it takes some special setup so don't have that automated
from an angle, it’s a pretty good thing you sell there, a mix of vanity and immortality
coloring my point of view: in games the most profitable things to sell are hats, tournament access
the next level up from that is what valve is doing for the dota tournanent fan packages
food for thought ;)
yeah, there is an interesting mix. Some people are comforted by the fact that most likely nothing they do will last so in the end, they don't need to worry.
It will all be dust whatever they do.
Other people are terrified by that and want something to stand forever.
i’m in the content club myself, in entropy i trust
if dns could be permanent, i could have uses for jokes
I could do that
in that i’d have interest
Is SSL/TLS a deal breaker on that?
I can make it work with TLS, but there will be some additional provisioning process that will take a few minutes to run
but I guess that probably isn't a big deal
automated letsencrypt sounds good enough for the purpose
how do you handle versioning?
the concept sorta implies by preventing it, but then again an index.html would be too daunting to write in perpetuity on the first go
All snapshots are preserved
But most recent is served on request for 'head'
and you set no cache control headers, i suppose
On request for a specific snapshot I set it high
On head request, I do something reasonable
i'd say it never makes sense to set it for head
my marketing itch is starting again, `angelfire for distinct nerds`
CC0
I think I have it at 5 min for head
Not really meant for rapidly changing content
fair
even 1h should be fair
or 1d
1w would be harsh
Mostly I wanted reused items to not need to be reloaded in a browsing session
i assume bandwidth is a cost for you
cloud at cost did not go too well as a business
oh, it's actually still going, heard it was in trouble a while back
I track bandwidth and people can buy bandwidth quota
As one time or refreshing
the quotas make me think you host on antarctica
though iridium is cheaper these days
Google Cloud bandwidth isn't cheap
I plan on offering cache boxes as a lower cost solution
Lower availablity and quality as well
As with other things the refreshing bandwidth is a single payment that gets that bandwidth each year
Forever
not appealing to put a funny on there
You get a free 50mb
So why not?
if a funny is actually funny, people will end up missing it
or alternatively i end up racking up quite a bill
meh
No bill, it just gets turned off
Temporary until the quota recovers
