@aikida3k don’t say ROI when you mean breakeven

Hi, im trying to run my node and start mining. When I try to run my node I get a "failed to initiate logging" error, because it cqannot determine the JNI library name

any idea what im doing wrong/ missing?
UpstateCS
2018-10-15 17:13:26
that is a new one, can you provide the full error or a screenshot?
Fireduck
2018-10-15 17:13:49
also, a lot of things that look like errors are actually fine
Fireduck
2018-10-15 17:17:19
there are some polish improvements that could be done

90% sure you are using a 32-bit jvm
Fireduck
2018-10-15 17:43:38
install a 64-bit java
Fireduck
2018-10-15 17:43:48
or set "db_type=lobstack" in your node.conf
Fireduck
2018-10-15 17:44:02
but 64 bit jvm will be better for other things as well
Fireduck
2018-10-15 18:17:52
I downloaded java 64bit, i right click and i get the same error, im currently redownloading the files

What do you see if you open up a command prompt and do "java -version" ?
Fireduck
2018-10-15 18:20:44
UpstateCS
2018-10-15 18:22:29
that is still the 32 bit jvm
Fireduck
2018-10-15 18:22:33
maybe reboot?
Fireduck
2018-10-15 18:22:45
it should say 64-bit somewhere in there
Fireduck
2018-10-15 18:22:55
java version "10.0.1" 2018-04-17
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment 18.3 (build 10.0.1+10)
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM 18.3 (build 10.0.1+10, mixed mode)
Fireduck
2018-10-15 18:22:57
something like that
Fireduck
2018-10-15 18:26:47
yeah. Version 8 or 10 are fine, but the 64-bit is important
Fireduck
2018-10-15 18:27:13
working good now, thanks

@UpstateCS are you Grumpy?
Clueless
2018-10-15 18:28:06
I made the unfortunate assumption that Java would automatically choose the 64bit version.
UpstateCS
2018-10-15 18:28:21
Grumpy?
UpstateCS
2018-10-15 18:28:22
heh
Fireduck
2018-10-15 18:29:39
@Clueless What do you mean by grumpy?
UpstateCS
2018-10-15 18:30:45
I think me meant some user with that name he has presumably been chatting with elsewhere
Fireduck
2018-10-15 18:30:52
I wouldn't read anything into it
Fireduck
2018-10-15 18:36:42
Another user in discord was messaging me about the exact same thing a just now.
Clueless
2018-10-15 18:36:50
and solved the issue at exactly the same time
Clueless
2018-10-15 18:40:09
ahh, that wasnt me

Snowfeild sizes are based on ram amount correct?
UpstateCS
2018-10-15 19:13:01
Nope
Fireduck
2018-10-15 19:13:22
Ram that fits the field helps
Fireduck
2018-10-15 19:15:49
so for the most efficent mining with 32gb of ram id want the 32gb sized field?
UpstateCS
2018-10-15 19:17:15
you need the 128 GB snowfield.
fydel
2018-10-15 19:17:37
ok
UpstateCS
2018-10-15 19:18:01
you cant mine with 32 GB RAM. you can only speed nvme or ssd mining a little tiny bit.
fydel
2018-10-15 19:18:34
to my experience you need at least 140 GB RAM in one machine.
fydel
2018-10-15 19:18:41
for RAM mining.
fydel
2018-10-15 19:21:09
okay, anyone have a guide on SSD mining?
UpstateCS
2018-10-15 19:38:41
Ram mining is not that much faster, if you consider the price for 140GB ram. When the next snowfield activates thats 280GB+, in the long term it will be ssd/nvme only

i host one for advanced users giving the probable or known engineering limits, dunno if that’s super useful for a general audience, but should give one at least an enlarged vocabulary to ask around with
https://snowplough.kekku.li/wizard/ A quickstart wizard to help you get started with mining Snowblossom.
