The cool think is with ipv6 link local addressing, you don't even need to dhcp or coordinate IPs

machines on the same network can just multicast and find each other

that is the fe80:: address that everything always has

the last part is randomly generated based on however the OS wants to do it (static based on mac, random on each reboot, whatever)
