New ryzen 5 CPU node
Dell R900 men node
Ha
Things change too much
the disks? get a hot swap bay
but yeah, cable salad is hard, m.2 for the win on that as well
Yeah, I love m.2
the sata vs. pci-e vs. different kinds of pci-e vs. different widths of pci-e vs. what the pci-e is backed by is a bit icky to navigate, but cannot have it all
u.2 brings certainty and a price tag to match
Problem found. Bad cable.
imptel?
men mode -> operated by small men -> intel ~> imptel
took your mem node typo and ran with it
hah
it looks like an imp cage anyway
I like the way you think
yeah, it howls so I keep it in the storage room to not bother anyone with its unanswered screams
you got all the drive cages for that unit?
no
I figure when it got decommissioned whoever tossed the drives into the shreader in the sleds
do make a humorous cup holder for the naked rails, then
because it is work to remove drives
yeah, industrial shredders are both fun and unambiguous as to what you feed them
yep
and can't let that data out
but the server itself can go to whoever handles those
and then I buy it from new egg
but those sleds are hard to get
'good enough' tier hacks should be trivially 3d printable, but the devil is in the cad design step
yeah
I did a good bit of that for 3d printing hobby projects
in fact the yellow drive holder in my first picture I designed and printed
shit, I should have just checked ebay
not hard to get
the thing that sucks is I was 14 out of 20 days into building field 12 on that machine where the cable failed
oh well
love how fucking giant that ryzen cpu is compared to the mobo
