the service is fine for planned and thought out categories of trailing end corporate data
for personal data, it was either never important enough to back up in the first place or you need it *now*
AWS has a pretty nice offering for storage. It is good to have the option and the lifecycle management is cool.
You can setup a rule to to automatically put things older than X days in glacier or tape hole.
I'll be using the AWS deep storage for some things where if I need them several things must have gone very very wrong

and in my particular case, the time doesn't matter
