Hey guys, is it easy to start mining Snow?

Alexander

opinions vary, many find it easy, many find it hard - try

Totally new to mining. Visiting http://snowblossom.org for instructions. Is it only tp download one of the torrents to get going?

Alexander
2018-11-09 09:45:06
essentially yes

Rotonen
2018-11-09 09:45:28
check out on the block explorer what is the current snow field and grab that or a larger one

Rotonen
2018-11-09 09:45:33
all of them contain all the previous ones

Rotonen

You download the largest snowfield you can to your SSD and mine from there?

Chuffer
2018-11-09 14:02:34
that is a sensible approach, yes

Rotonen

Pool failover seems to work

I'm going to add some additional stats

Fireduck

what could be cool and in the spirit of decentralization would be some p2p pool discovery mechanism

Rotonen
2018-11-09 20:38:14
I like that.

hi all, is this cpu mined only?

reuel
2018-11-09 21:49:03
@reuel our POW is storage IO based

Clueless

you can do the number crunching on anything, but it's not meaningful, as you somehow need to get the correct numbers to the cruncher to begin with

Rotonen
2018-11-09 21:51:17
currently CPUs could crunch more than you can feed them

Rotonen
2018-11-09 22:16:59
the bottleneck is the I/O on your HD?

reuel
2018-11-09 22:31:26
Yes. People try to mine with ram

Fireduck
2018-11-09 22:31:32
Or SSD

Fireduck
2018-11-09 22:31:44
HDD is pretty slow

Fireduck
2018-11-09 22:35:33
there is a standard mining implementation?

reuel
2018-11-09 22:36:16
gonna try it out later :slightly_smiling_face:

reuel
2018-11-09 22:37:30
@reuel you probably want an NVME or several.

Clueless
2018-11-09 22:39:34
is there a guide for a decent mining rig then

reuel
2018-11-09 22:42:34
We are still figuring it out
