On field 8, will the field size be 2x 128? And is it realistic to hit field 8 within a year or so? I can't store that much data on my SSD, I can on an external HD but I won't be able to mine (correct?) Can't imagine a large portion of people being able to mine at a field size that large, why was this designed that way? Surely it couldn't have been looked over that by field 8-9 almost everyone is out. Unless I am misunderstanding where to store the field and how that relates to the mining. Can I on an external HD and mine on my computers SSD?
a new field gets activated every two bits of difficulty
if the network sustains something above 3,6GH/s for a while, it'll pull the average difficulty up above 41, thus activating field 8
we're already above difficulty 40 and the network has grown to about 2,6GHz
so if the current burst of new miners does not dry up from unsustainable financing of their mining, that could actually aready kick in within one or two weeks
Honestly, I didn't expect this much hash power this quickly
I thought we would get to 64gb or so and then basically hit a way where memory was no longer cost effective and be there for years
clearly, I was wrong
but 256gb is well within a reasonable ssd
It's being shilled heavily recently
I think there are still a lot of people on here who use VPSes
Not sure how high the profitability is currently, but it used to be quite high
Ha. Well, at least they are organic shills.
@Fireduck on 4chan they are saying you work for Google. Is that true? Crazy amount of SnowBlossom posts in there
I used to
also, I am working on moving things over to a new wiki
@CryptoQuan can you link me? I'm curious.
have you not seen the threads at all?
I haven't, I'm not classy enough to hang out on 4chan
hahaha here is the one from today
http://boards.4chan.org/biz/thread/11583878 Buy Snowblossom - "/biz/ - Business & Finance" is 4chan's imageboard for the discussion of business and finance, and cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin and Dogecoin.
It’s a very classy place
lol, "I know the lead dev, Zac. Good guy"
indeed sir.
For anyone watching, I was wrong on the terminology, Quantum Resistant means a different thing than what I thought so we can't claim that (yet)
We will be safer, longer than most coins but are not quantum resistant yet
I am making up new terminology
don’t
Quantum Immune: Not susceptible to attacks by quantum computers. In the event a quantum computer can break the encryption scheme, the scheme is polymorphic where it changes its signature so that threat is alleviated
lol
the article is fine
The only thing I am making up is "Quantum Tough"
rather title the article ’on quantum’?
I am updating all docs on quantum resistant and wanted a parallel named url to point to
I could go with quantum status
also, wanted something terse to go in a feature list
status i buy
there’s a hype hungry crowd on discord, that’d excite people over there with a good title
in the give them bread and games kinda way
I like the "quantum tough" term.
The NIST process seems a little too far out there, though, to meaningfully build in to a governance plan. Unless I'm mistaken, there's no timeline to get the recommendations done before 2024, and since it's NIST and government, that may more likely mean 2028.
There are standards emerging in this nonetheless, kind of like the sort of standards we see in cloud with standards bodies. Here's a report on three coins. Is this our peer market?
https://medium.com/the-quantum-resistant-ledger/red4sec-security-audit-concludes-a-summary-563ecfe04c75 TL;DR — Red4Sec finished, more audits coming, and an update regarding mainnet
https://medium.com/@cleanapp/is-iotas-tangle-really-quantum-proof-e08550387b96 IOTA claims its Tangle is “quantum-proof.” What do premises & promises like these teach us about broader DLT development aims?
Quantum proof is a bold claim
If the quantum computers start really getting better nist will either light a fire and pick some finalists
or the community will and there will be a community adopted solution regardless of nist
arbitrary writers on medium have opinions, i also have opinions i prefer onions
Those big yellow ones?
Medium writers seem reasonable from the few things I have read
their targeting pushing stuff onto you is good, but it's essentially a glorified http://wordpress.com with a buy-in content consumption model, early on they also seemed to pay competent writers to use the platform to increase the perceived platform value to be eventually able to be pull off what they're now - but at this point there is a huge variance as to authors on the platform, as all content is good content for them after the critical mass tipping point
Ah, I had no idea..I thought it was basically a newspaper with hired authors
they branded it social journalism
for me that points to the same as blogosphere
it's a pet of the press to a degree as it's one of the twitter founders behind that one
if you actually wanna dig into that, check out why backchannel jumped off from medium to wired
that's the thread to pull to get into the whole network of how that publication business works
