On field 8, will the field size be 2x 128?
And is it realistic to hit field 8 within a year or so? I can't store that much data on my SSD, I can on an external HD but I won't be able to mine (correct?)
Can't imagine a large portion of people being able to mine at a field size that large, why was this designed that way? Surely it couldn't have been looked over that by field 8-9 almost everyone is out. Unless I am misunderstanding where to store the field and how that relates to the mining. Can I on an external HD and mine on my computers SSD?

a new field gets activated every two bits of difficulty
Rotonen
2018-10-31 10:13:51
if the network sustains something above 3,6GH/s for a while, it'll pull the average difficulty up above 41, thus activating field 8
Rotonen
2018-10-31 10:14:05
we're already above difficulty 40 and the network has grown to about 2,6GHz

so if the current burst of new miners does not dry up from unsustainable financing of their mining, that could actually aready kick in within one or two weeks

I thought we would get to 64gb or so and then basically hit a way where memory was no longer cost effective and be there for years

For anyone watching, I was wrong on the terminology, Quantum Resistant means a different thing than what I thought so we can't claim that (yet)

Not susceptible to attacks by quantum computers. In the event a quantum computer can break the encryption scheme, the scheme is polymorphic where it changes its signature so that threat is alleviated

The NIST process seems a little too far out there, though, to meaningfully build in to a governance plan. Unless I'm mistaken, there's no timeline to get the recommendations done before 2024, and since it's NIST and government, that may more likely mean 2028.

There are standards emerging in this nonetheless, kind of like the sort of standards we see in cloud with standards bodies. Here's a report on three coins. Is this our peer market?

Fireduck
2018-10-31 23:26:19
their targeting pushing stuff onto you is good, but it's essentially a glorified http://wordpress.com with a buy-in content consumption model, early on they also seemed to pay competent writers to use the platform to increase the perceived platform value to be eventually able to be pull off what they're now - but at this point there is a huge variance as to authors on the platform, as all content is good content for them after the critical mass tipping point
