@Fireduck is there a downtimeless way to do ACID backups of the pool db?
Rotonen

Not currently
Fireduck
2018-08-31 01:53:00
Writes are infrequent so rsync should be fine
Fireduck
2018-08-31 01:53:15
I know that isn't exactly what you are looking for
Fireduck

@Rotonen they should just average all the existing times together and use that as a universal time

@Rotonen You mentioned trademarks, code ownership, and "neat legal form" might make this project seem cleaner to you, I'm interested what you mean exactly. Do we have uncovered bases? :P

he's on about 'not making me a dev' or some other such confusing topic - i'm mostly here to provide technical user feedback and enjoying the technicalities PoW challenge
Rotonen
2018-08-31 19:59:53
but i did point out to him i only contribute to open source projects which are organized in a way they hold all the trademarks and code ownership in a neat legal form, and contributors sign contributor agreements

well, It's just a respect/role/permission thing in discord, I don't intend for us to be centralized.

as originally stated, you onesidedly flagged me a moderator in discord and i told you may do so so long as you never expect me to moderate

Yeah, I'm in no position to have any expectations/requirements of you.
You just seem sane.

and yes, i am available for dev work, for hourly rates in fiat, for legally organized parties, if need be

2018-08-31 20:02:58
also for yeast microbiology consultancy in beer brewing contexts, but that's probably even less relevant for you

We have big plans. That could play a part.

No fucking IPAs.

2018-08-31 20:05:53
I hate IPA

2018-08-31 20:06:06
i have a sour beer brewery

@Fireduck same!
lager?

but, on topic, as technical user feedback, how does the pplns 5 block scheme on my pool still show shares for more than one miner when there has been only one miner for the past 5 blocks? did i get it wrong?
Rotonen
2018-08-31 20:10:27
It isn't 5 blocks found by your pool, it is 5 blocks of shares. It would be 5 pool blocks if your luck was exactly as statisticaly expected.
Fireduck
2018-08-31 20:10:54
how's it forming that '5 block' sliding window?
Rotonen
2018-08-31 20:11:41
i mean it's sorta what i expected, but it's brutal to new minings starting up on a dead pool with existing shares from previous higher difficulties
Rotonen
2018-08-31 20:11:56
it's within ~90% of what i expected, though
Rotonen
2018-08-31 20:12:08
so almost just off by one from my point of view
Rotonen
2018-08-31 20:13:36
It simply tracks pow(2,diff-18)*5 shares back
Fireduck
2018-08-31 20:13:58
If the base difficulty is 18. Not sure I remember right.
Fireduck
2018-08-31 20:14:27
So yeah, if diff goes up, the buffer gets bigger
Fireduck
2018-08-31 20:14:32
I think the reasoning is to prevent pool hopping, and forcing them to meet thresholds of shares before payout
Clueless
2018-08-31 20:15:37
eh, could just run PPS to keep it simple and differentiate, but would have to do a private fork
Rotonen
2018-08-31 20:16:01
but cool, seems i just had bad research on my side for how pplns works
Rotonen
2018-08-31 20:19:25
but re: organised open source - suppose @Fireduck dies and the inheritors go full blown stupid with trying to sell the rights to the code to horrible vested parties, which are a part of the estate then
Rotonen
2018-08-31 20:20:07
etc. legal mess, for which quite a lot of things are organised to have a single legal body holding all the rights
Rotonen
2018-08-31 21:07:46
that would be fun
